Good research outcomes start with clean handling and consistent storage. This post is intentionally general—always follow the specific guidance provided with your material and your lab’s SOPs.
1) Label everything (and keep it readable)
At minimum, label with:
- material name
- lot/batch number
- received date
- storage condition (as provided)
This makes it easier to keep documentation aligned with the exact item in use.
2) Store according to provided conditions
Many research materials require controlled storage (temperature, light protection, dry environment, etc.). If your product includes storage guidance, treat it as the primary source.
3) Reduce unnecessary exposure
General habits that help in research environments:
- minimize time out of storage
- reseal properly after use
- avoid cross-contamination (tools/containers)
- keep a simple handling log if your workflow benefits from it
4) Keep documentation attached to the batch
COAs and batch records are most useful when they stay linked to:
- lot number
- purchase record
- any internal notes (date opened, storage location)
5) When in doubt, ask support with the right info
The fastest support messages include:
- product name
- lot/batch number
- your order number (if you have it)
